Taylor Swift "The Life of a Showgirl" Listening Marathon
From the moment Tim McGraw first hit the airwaves, Taylor Swift has inspired generations to sing, write, and relive their own stories through her music. To honor that connection, Surprise Surprise partnered with KISS 107, Highball Cincy, and Sessions Vinyl Room for a seventeen-and-a-half-hour listening marathon celebrating Taylor's full discography and the debut of The Life of a Showgirl.
Fans danced through every era, traded friendship bracelets, and shared memories in an immersive, music-fueled experience, such as indulging in Taylor Swift's favorite dessert, which was imported from overseas. Those who stayed the full journey earned Swift-a-Thon gold medals, a vinyl edition of The Life of a Showgirl, and surprise prizes as a tribute to fandom, endurance, and the shared joy that defines the Swiftie community.
The Challenges
For Surprise Surprise, Highball Cincy, and KISS 107
Pulling off a seventeen-and-a-half-hour music marathon is no small feat, especially one designed to celebrate an artist with one of the most passionate fanbases in the world. For the event, the first challenge was sustaining engagement across an all-day, all-night experience. Guests needed energy, variety, and pacing that mirrored the emotional highs and lows of Taylor's discography. Surprise Surprise had to craft a programming flow that felt dynamic, balancing intimate listening moments with communal dance moments and interactive elements to keep the crowd immersed through every era.
An event of such length also presents a major operational and experiential challenge: keeping guests energized, hydrated, and engaged without repetition. Attendees needed access to food and drinks that were not only sufficient to sustain them but also aligned with the immersive storytelling of each musical era. Offering standard concessions would risk fatigue and disengagement, while creating distinct, era-specific menus required coordination between bartenders and production teams to ensure quality, timing, and thematic consistency throughout the marathon.
Lastly, the team had to design for emotional and experiential balance by creating moments that felt personal within a large group setting. From surprise giveaways to immersive décor inspired by Taylor's eras, each detail needed to feel intentional and authentic, celebrating fandom without feeling overly branded. The result was a carefully choreographed, emotionally resonant experience that honored both the music and the community it inspires.
The Solution
- Surprise Surprise: Developed a meticulously timed programming strategy that balanced emotional pacing with crowd energy, integrating listening sessions, breaks for giveaways, and interactive fan moments. The team also produced surprise era reveals and custom visuals to re-energize guests throughout the night while maintaining narrative flow.
- Highball Cincy: Curated a signature era-inspired drink and food menu that evolved with each musical chapter—from whimsical cocktails for 1989 to cozy comfort concoctions for Folklore (with some delicious pizza along the way). This ensured guests stayed fueled, hydrated, and delighted, with each refreshment tied to the emotional tone and story world of the music.
- KISS 107: Activated fan engagement with broadcast moments throughout the week, giveaways, and social media challenges that amplified the event citywide. Their presence kept the celebration feeling communal, extending the experience beyond the venue and building buzz across Cincinnati throughout the 17.5-hour marathon.
- Sessions Vinyl Room: Partnered as the official record provider, supplying limited-edition vinyl for each Taylor Swift era featured throughout the marathon. They also curated exclusive giveaways of Life of a Showgirl special vinyl prints for top marathon listeners, creating collectible moments that deepened fans' emotional connection and rewarded their dedication with tangible keepsakes from the event.
Our Plan
We began by fully immersing ourselves in the world of Taylor Swift — the eras, the emotional storytelling, and the passionate fanbase that defines her global impact. Working closely with Highball Cincy, KISS 107, and Sessions Vinyl, Surprise Surprise set out to design a one-of-a-kind 17.5-hour listening marathon that celebrated Taylor's music, legacy, and the community she's inspired for over a decade.
We:
- Identified key emotional themes across her discography, including growth, heartbreak, empowerment, nostalgia, and reinvention, and used them to guide the flow and pacing of the event.
- Defined our creative north star: "The Life of a Showgirl: A Taylor Swift Listening Marathon" as a communal celebration that moved through each era with immersive design, live energy, and heartfelt connection.
- Mapped audience personas: superfans, casual listeners, local creatives, media partners, and first-time Highball guests, ensuring programming resonated across fandom levels.
With story and strategy aligned, the team conceptualized a seamless, all-day, all-night experience that felt alive at every hour:
- Designed era-based listening and dance zones, with visuals, décor, and lighting cues that evolved in sync with each album's tone — from the shimmer of 1989 to the intimacy of Folklore.
- Partnered with Highball Cincy to craft a signature, era-inspired drink and food menu, ensuring guests stayed energized with flavors and presentation that mirrored Taylor's emotional arc.
- Activated KISS 107 to amplify the event citywide through live broadcasts, giveaways, and social moments, turning the venue into the heartbeat of Cincinnati's Swiftie scene.
- Collaborated with Sessions Vinyl, who provided curated records for each album and exclusive vinyl giveaways for marathon listeners, transforming fandom into collectible keepsakes.
- Built the experience for emotional and social virality, with hidden Easter eggs, themed photo backdrops, and surprise giveaways that kept fans discovering and sharing throughout the 17.5-hour journey.
The Outcomes
The Taylor Swift: Life of a Showgirl Listening Marathon became an unforgettable event that transformed a simple listening party into a cultural celebration:
- Hundreds of attendees showed up throughout the event from morning until sunrise.
- Signature drinks and limited-edition cocktails at Highball Cincy created a buzz throughout the event, keeping guests energized and fully immersed in each Taylor Swift era.
- KISS 107's weeklong coverage amplified the event citywide, extending the celebration beyond the venue and connecting fans across Cincinnati to the marathon experience.
- Sessions vinyl giveaways drove high engagement, with fans participating in challenges for a chance to win collectible records.
